This project's brief was to tell a visual story using word and image in the form of a booklet; the topic was completely free for me to choose. I knew I wanted to choose a taboo topic on something I was passionate about; even though it wasn't out of my comfort zone, I knew it would be for a lot of people, which gave me all the more reason to tell this story as a way of spreading a message.
I chose to create my piece on the trial of Brock Turner, a university student found guilty of rape but only served 3 months in prison due to the judge's incompetence, a complete injustice to the victim, Chanel Miller. I first heard of this case when Chanel's (who only recently revealed her identity) victim impact statement went viral; most of my text is taken from this.
There are many other cases of injustice similar to this which inspired me to take on this feat even more, such as 'Marie's' story which ended up being turned into the Netflix series 'unbelievable.'
